Earlier this year CalNonprofits told us about Assembly Bill 2252, to create a searchable database of state grants —from all state agencies— on a single portal accessible to the public.
The bill also would enable nonprofits to submit state funding applications electronically. AB 2252 is sponsored by CalNonprofits and authored by Assemblymember Monique Limón, who is also Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on the Nonprofit Sector.
What we need from you: Thanks to your earlier support, AB 2252 is now headed to the Senate floor for a full vote, and it’s time to let your State Senator know why they should vote to support this bill. It will only take 3 minutes to call and leave a message.
You can find your state senator by typing in your address on this website: State Senators.
We’re days away from the end of the legislative session, so please call your senator today. Explain what organization you are calling from, and what services your nonprofit provides in their district.
3 sample talking points on why you want them to vote yes on AB 2252:
1) There’s currently no centralized place for nonprofits to learn about or apply for state grant opportunities.
2) Funding is a constant challenge for nonprofits, and this is a good way for the state government to make funding opportunities more transparent and accessible to the nonprofits working in their communities.
3) Under the state quo of grants posted in different formats in different places, some of the nonprofits who are best-equipped to meet the needs of their communities may never see them. AB 2252 addresses that problem.
Thank you for your support!
