NEA Funds ACSO Organizational Members and Announces Upcoming Grant Deadlines

Eight ACSO Organizational Members have been awarded $275,000 in Art Works, Part 1 and Challenge America grants by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in the first round of major grant funding in the 2019 fiscal year. Direct grants from the NEA are a crucial form of support for many community-based arts organizations, enabling grantees to leverage additional financial support from state, local, and private sources.

Art Works Grant, Part 1

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, $25,000
To support and artist residency.

Los Angeles Philharmonic, $85,000 
To support the concert series William Grant Still and the Harlem Renaissance, including the premiere of a new work by Adolphus Hailstork and related community engagement activities.

Music Academy of the West, $20,000 
To support the Commissions and Premieres (C+P) initiative, a professional artistic development program.

Pacific Symphony, $30,000
To support an orchestral performance project celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
   
San Diego Symphony, $20,000
To support Hearing the Future, an annual festival of new music.

San Francisco Symphony, $75,000
To support The Magic of Youth: Engaging Community through Ravel and Britten, a performance and engagement project with children's voices.
   
San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, $10,000
To support the Artist Development Program of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra.   
   
Challenge America Grant
   
Santa Rosa Symphony, $10,000
To support musical performances and related outreach activities by guest violinist Elena Urioste.
