Stravinsky’s theatrical work “L’Histoire du soldat” (The Soldier’s Tale), written for septet and three actors, is about a soldier named Joseph who is tricked by the devil to sell his fiddle for financial gain. Joseph attempts to gain back possession of his fiddle from the devil. After a rollercoaster of events, the work tragically concludes with the soldier defeated and the devil gaining the upper hand.
