Orchestra Santa Monica: DANCE & Rachmaninoff
Sunday, November 03, 2024, 2:00 PM PST
Category: California Concerts - Southern CA
The program opens with gusto and joy with Leonard Bernstein’s brilliant Overture to Candide. Written in 2019 by British composer Anna Clyne, DANCE is a five-movement work based upon a five-line poem by the 13th-century poet Rumi. Cellist Eric Byers returns to perform with OSM in this rich, compelling work. Sergei Rachmaninoff’s passionate Symphony No. 2 is a masterpiece of romantic music. It was an instant success when it premiered in 1908 and continues to be revered to this day.
